Day 1

Overnight: Cloncurry

Arrive in Cloncurry

Settle into the birthplace of the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Explore John Flynn Place Museum, climb the Cloncurry Lookout at sunset and visit Cloncurry Unearthed to understand the region’s pioneering spirit.

Optional extension:
Chinaman Creek Dam for birdwatching and kayaking.

Day 2

Overnight: Mount Isa

Cloncurry to Mount Isa

Travel west toward Mount Isa, stopping at Fountain Springs (seasonal) and exploring the historic Mary Kathleen uranium mine site. Consider a guided interpretive tour for deeper insight.

Arrive in Mount Isa and take in sunset from Telstra Hill.

Day 3

Overnight: Mount Isa

Discover Mount Isa

Go underground at Hard Times Mine. Visit the Mount Isa Underground Hospital. Explore Indigenous culture and ancient fossils at Outback at Isa. Stay after dark for uninterrupted stargazing.

Optional extension:
Lake Moondarra, 4WD trails, or event experiences.

Day 4

Overnight: Camooweal

Mount Isa to Camooweal

Travel along the Barkly Highway toward Queensland’s western edge. Stop at the WWII Site Rest Area before arriving in Camooweal.
Explore Freckleton’s Store, visit Drovers Camp and, if conditions allow, head to Camooweal Caves (Wiliyan-ngurru National Park).
